A special ops training course ‘Advanced Survival and Operations in Extreme Environments’ facilitated by Circadio Limited. This course covers tactics used in three distinct habitats: forest, mountain and coastal-marine. We will also spend half a day covering urban species.
These are three important and often critical environments in relation to food sourcing. This course covers the use of vegetation for edible, medical and survival purposes.
Course will take place from Monday 16 May to Friday 20 May 2022.
Monday: Familiarisation. Group meeting and assessment of participant knowledge. Theory of identification. Plant family characteristics. Using botanical and mycological keys. Classification of habitat and interpreting likely food sources.
Tuesday: Forest. A visit to forested and wooded environments to look at species colonising edge habitat, coniferous plantation, old growth woodland. The particular aspects of thickly wooded and closed terrain.
Wednesday: Coastal. A visit to littoral, marine and estuarine habitats on the North Sea coast focusing on coastal, saltmarsh, seaweed and other algae species. Two days after the full moon we expect a very low tide to expose the kelp forest.
Thursday: Mountain. A visit to the Scottish Highlands mountain and hill terrain to look at the challenges of survival and plant species in these forbidding high altitude, open-element terrains and plains.
Friday: Urban. The opportunistic and non-native species in abandoned brownfield sites, city parks and streets. Round up of knowledge and close.
The course will be taught by both Matt Rooney and Mo Wilde.
Course size is limited. Please get in touch for more information.
